Waterproofing admixture
Waterproofing admixtures are porous materials that have the ability to absorb water and water-borne contaminants. Hydrophobic and pore blocking ingredients react with products of the cement hydration process to produce a hydrophobic material which resists external water, decreasing absorption into the concrete.
Waterproofing admixtures protect structures from degradation. They increase durablity and reduce maintenance costs. Different types of admixtures are used for different parts of a structure namely the roof, basement or walls, as well as for different locations, climatic conditions, and purpose of the structure. Waterproofing admixtures have a broad range of applications in construction and infrastructure development.
The global waterproofing admixture market is growing rapidly because of strong growth in the building and construction industry and the emergence of the developing nations.
The key type segments of waterproofing admixture market are crystalline, pore blocking and others:
- Crystalline waterproofing systems are mainly used to waterproof and regenerate leaky water tanks, retaining walls and swimming pools.
- The pore blocking waterproofing system is applied to repair and waterproof roofs and other exteriors.
On the basis of applications, the waterproofing admixture market can be segmented as; building & construction, public infrastructure, and commercial space applications.
Due to increasing concern about the quality of civil structure and other benefits achieved by making concrete structure stronger using materials such as waterproofing admixture, this market is expected to grow rapidly.
The Asia Pacific was the leading regional market for waterproofing admixture owing to strong demand from emerging countries in 2014, followed by Middle East and Africa. Asia Pacific is expected to continue to grow rapidly because of the significant amaount of construction in the region.
Some of the key participants in the global waterproofing admixture market include Kryton International Inc.; BASF SE; SIKA AG; W.R. Grace & Co.; Wacker Chemie AG; DOW Corning Corporation.; RPM International Inc.; Pidilite Industries; Evonik Industries; Fosroc International Ltd; Mapei S.P.A.; and Xypex Chemical Corporation.
